While this story talks about a defibrillator (AED) being used to save the police officer, there is no doubt that someone was also administering CPR while the AED was being retrieved.
Stories like this one have special meaning for our family because our youngest was saved by people who knew what to do when his heart stopped: they knew and applied CPR, and called 911. Our son is alive today because people took a little time out of their busy lives to learn CPR.
During our time at Childrens Hospital we were shocked to learn that sudden cardiac arrest is the leading killer in the US. We have since gotten involved with a number of heart organizations, including the American Heart Association (AHA), if you need information on setting up CPR training in your community or where to find information on CPR training, feel free to contact the AHA or leave us a note.
